The Problem
A customer in Croydon called us after all but one of their upstairs lights stopped working.
After a full investigation, we discovered squirrels had chewed through the lighting cables in the loft, causing an open circuit and tripping the RCD
What We Did
- ✔ Carried out a full fault-finding investigation from the consumer unit to the affected lighting circuit.
- ✔ Traced the fault into the loft space where damage to the cable was discovered.
- ✔ Identified that squirrels had chewed through the cable insulation, creating an open circuit.
- ✔ Removed the damaged section of cable and installed new wiring using suitable connectors and enclosures.
- ✔ Tested the repaired circuit to confirm correct operation and compliance.
- ✔ Checked surrounding cables for any additional rodent damage before restoring power.
- ✔ Confirmed all upstairs lighting was operating correctly and advised the customer on preventing future rodent damage.
